1. BREEN-MACHINE: Chris Breen’s second of the season ended a goalie’s battle just eight seconds into overtime. Paul Byron and Sven Baertschi somehow fabricated a 2-on-1 off the opening draw of extra time, and while Baertschi’s final attempt was stopped, it ended up on a tee for the 6’7″ 230 pound defender, who promptly pounded the puck in from the left point before being mobbed by his teammates.

2. MATCH-UP OF MASKED MEN: Christopher Nilstorp nearly had his third shutout of the week, while the Heat haven now been involved in shutout contests in four of their last six games. Danny Taylor stopped all 19 he saw in regulation to pick up a second shutout of the season, and the Heat’s fifth. Meanwhile at the other end Nilstorp stopped all 27 in regulation and one of two in eight seconds of overtime. Impressive battle!

3. PENALTY KILLS PERFECT: Neither team could score on 13 combined power plays on the night – the Heat had eight, the Stars five. One memorable sequence on a Heat power play saw Roman Horak redirect a firm slap-pass from Ben Walter off the crossbar, the puck landed in the crease and a diving Nilstorp was the only thing between Roman Horak and his 11th of the season.
