1. WILD WOLVES DEN: Over 8,700 school kids invaded the Allstate Arena on Wednesday morning, for the first of two AM games for the Heat, and they were loud! Darren Haydar got the young students on their feet at 10:02 of the first period with his third goal of the season which would eventually stand as the game winner. Matt Climie and Barry Brust each drew ’3-Star’ status for their efforts in the low-scoring affair.
2. DECEMBER DROUGHT: The Heat have hit a rough patch offensively in December. The club has been shutout three times in the holiday month, and have just two wins in seven games. Sven Baertschi’s absense hasn’t helped matters either, he was the club’s leading scorer before leaving the November 30th games against the Hamilton Bulldogs with an upper body injury. Here’s to hoping the offense gets going on Friday in Grand Rapids.
3. SHORT BLUE LINE: With Steve McCarthy and Brady Lamb unavailable due to minor injuries and Joe Piskula waking up sick this morning, the Heat had to play with just five defenders – one of whom was Nick Tuzzolino, who was just recalled from Utah on Monday. Tuzzolino looked good all things considered, and the quintet managed to eat lots of ice while the pairings changed with regularity. Not an easy task.
