1. ICEHOGS RALLY: A pair of third period even-strength goals sunk the Heat, who led 2-1 and had outshot the home team 26-22 through 40 minutes. They also out-chanced the ‘Hogs by a slight margin in the game, and probably deserved a better fate… Again. The Midwest hasn’t been kind to the Heat this trip. When all the bounces were going the Heat’s way in October and November, December has indeed been cruel.
2. KOLANOS HEATING UP: With a pair of goals to open the game and a total of seven shots on on net, Krys Kolanos is rounding into form. Last season’s leading scorer – who found the net 30 times in just 47 games in 2011-12 – has been much better of late, reminiscent of the lethal finisher we saw dominate the league last season.
3. HEAT HOLIDAY: The Heat will now enjoy a brief Christmas break with loved ones before gathering in Chicago on the evening of the 27th. Abbotsford opens the post-holiday schedule with back-to-back games against the Wolves before closing out 2012 with a New Years Eve game in Peoria. Four of the next seven games will feature the BC battle between the Fraser Valley outfit and the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks.
