1. KOLANOS’ KOMPLETES 300: Heat sniper Krys Kolanos opened the scoring for a team-leading fourth time and earned his tenth goal of the season with a gorgeous deke to the backhand that went five-hole on Jeremy Smith. Saturday night’s contest was Kolanos’ 300th of his AHL career. The Phoenix Coyotes first round draft pick in 2000 has amassed 143 goals and 137 assists for a staggering 280 points in the AHL. A tip of the hat to Krys on an incredible run!
2. MAKE IT THREE: After starting there season-long eight-game homestand with a win and three losses, the Heat have now strung together three straight wins. With a game to go, the Heat are 4-3-0-0 in January and a win away from an impressive recovery from a homestand that started sour. The Heat have now allowed just four goals in their last four games. Danny Taylor has been superb.
3. BRETT’S BLAST: Fresh off assignment from Calgary Flames Training Camp and over eight months since his last game (he was locked out), Brett Carson made a whale of an impact on the game. The 6’4″, 210 pound 27-year-old defender rocketed the game winning goal from the point in the final second of the Heat’s second power play of the night. With Brodie in Calgary and McCarthy unsigned, Carson was a big boost to the blue-line.
