1. SEASON-HIGH FIVE: The Heat have now won five consecutive games – a season high run of ‘W’s. After four straight home victories, and eight games in a row played at home, the win is the first to come on the road since December 29th in Chicago. What do the five wins all have in common? The Heat power play has scored in each of the contests. Can the Heat enter the All-Star break with six wins in a row? We’ll find out in less than 20 hours, as the puck drops at 9:00 AM PST tomorrow AM.
2. CARSON AND ON AND ON: Heat defender Brett Carson has now scored in all three games he’s played this season, and buried the game’s first goal at even strength tonight. The former Charlotte Checker set the tone for a pretty one-sided opening 40 minutes that saw the Heat lead 4-1 at the second intermission. Carson and fellow ‘big-boy’ Chris Breen continue to be paired and looked strong again finishing with a combined +3 rating.
3. THE FOURTH IS WITH YOU: Brett Olson ended a two-month goal drought with his fifth of the season at 3:26 of the second period. Akim Aliu tripled his season point total with a pair of assists and some inspired physical play, and Dustin Sylvester recorded the second three-point game of his AHL career as the Heat’s fourth line was HUGE in the win. The trio earned a combined six points in the win.
