1. RARE WIN OVER HEAT: The 4-1 Monsters win is their first in regulation over the last two seasons against the Heat. Heading into Thursday’s game, the Heat had won seven of the previous eight contests against the Cleveland club, with the only loss coming after regulation on the Heat’s first road trip of the season. The Heat swept all four games last season against the Monsters. Three games remain between divisional foes this season.
2. DISCIPLINE DESIRED: It wasn’t the only reason the Heat lost, but the penalties taken took their toll on the Heat, despite going six-for-seven on the penalty kill. Down 3-1 early in the third, Abbotsford took three minors in the last 16 minutes, one which they allowed a goal on. Tough to get back into a game when you’re down a man on the ice.
3. DIVISION DRAMA: The Heat held the Division lead by a single point heading into action tonight, but the Monsters close the night in top spot with 52 points. Abbotsford is one point behind Lake Erie having played one less game, while the Marlies are two back of the divisional lead holding four games in hand.
